Urgup's Hidden Treasure
Pancarlik Church is located in Pancarlik Valley south of Urgup. With its cross plan and four columns, it reflects classic Cappadocian church architecture. Being off the main museum routes makes the church a relatively less-visited spot.
Its frescoes present beautiful examples of the 11th-century Cappadocian painting school. The scenes depicting the life cycle of Christ are particularly noteworthy in terms of composition and color use. The Deesis composition is the most important scene in the apse.
