Massive Rock Structure

Selime Cathedral is a cathedral-sized complex carved into volcanic tuff rock. Its main worship space is the widest single-volume rock church in Cappadocia. With its high ceiling, columns, and gallery, it creates the atmosphere of a true cathedral.

The complex includes guest rooms, kitchen, stable, and defensive tunnels in addition to the church. The structure also gained international fame for being used as a filming location for Star Wars: Episode III.

Ihlara Valley Connection

Selime Cathedral is the endpoint of the 14-kilometer Ihlara Valley walk. Hikers emerging from the valley are rewarded with this magnificent structure. The cathedral differentiates itself from other churches in the valley with its much larger scale.

The nearby Selime village is also worth visiting with its traditional stone houses and monastery remains.
