Satrapy Period

With the conquest of Anatolia by Persian King Cyrus, Cappadocia became a satrapy. During this period, the region gained a strategic position on the Persian Royal Road and became an important stop in east-west trade.

Local Governance

The Persians granted wide autonomy to local rulers, and Cappadocia's local culture was largely preserved. Horse breeding and agriculture developed in the region during this period, and Cappadocian horses gained fame throughout the ancient world.
