Roman Province
In 17 AD, during the reign of Emperor Tiberius, Cappadocia officially became a Roman province. During the Roman period, roads were built, cities developed, and Kayseri (Caesarea) became an important administrative center.
Birth of Christianity
During the Roman period, Cappadocia became one of the most important centers of early Christianity. The Cappadocian Fathers -- Saint Basil, Gregory of Nazianzus, and Gregory of Nyssa -- laid the foundations of Christian theology here.
