Seljuk Period

Caravanserais
The Seljuks secured trade routes by building caravanserais every 30-40 km along the Silk Road. Magnificent structures such as Sultanhani, Agzikarahan, and Saruhan remain from this period. These buildings provided free accommodation and security for merchants.
Cultural Synthesis
The Seljuk period was a time when Turkic-Islamic and local Christian cultures coexisted. This synthesis contributed greatly to the architectural and artistic richness of the region. The pottery tradition in Avanos also developed during this period.
